$18 Billion Donation Given By George Soros

The hedge fund manager and major liberal political donor, George Soros has shocked many in the financial industry by giving away the vast majority of his estimated personal fortune to his own charitable group. The Open Society Foundations established by Soros in the 1980s has been the major beneficiary of the philanthropy of Soros over the last three decades with Forbes initially estimating Soros had donated $3 billion to the network of charitable groups across 2017. The continuing philanthropic work of George Soros shows no sign of slowing down despite the fact the Wall Street legend is now in his ninth decade of life and enhances his reputation consistently through his investment, philanthropic, political work, and what George Soros knows.

Forbes had just released its 2017 400 List of the richest people in the U.S. before the revelation of the $18 billion donations to the Open Society Foundations was released to the public. Members of the inner-circle of the Open Society Foundations report the multi-year donations will eventually rise to $18 billion of a personal fortune rated at $23 billion by Forbes; taking into account the $3 billion the magazine publisher had already estimated as donated to the Open Society Foundations by Soros Forbes lowered the rating of the Soros Fund Management founder from $23 billion to just $8 billion overnight. Not only did the fortune of George Soros fall by $15 billion but he fell from number 20 on the 400 List to number 59.

George Soros has always been a major supporter of the work of the Open Society Foundations and employs a dedicated team of individuals to discover philanthropic groups who can be funded to provide a greater level of support for human rights and gender issues across the planet. The Open Society Foundations reports George Soros is one of the leading backers of many of the most difficult to influence liberal causes in the world including same-sex marriage and the decriminalization of illegal drugs.

There are many reasons why George Soros has made the decision to donate more than two-thirds of his fortune to the Open Society Foundations including the fear Soros has of a rising right-wing influence on global politics and finance. And, Soros himself has become a champion of human rights groups and refugees as he feels his own history provides a link to many of those stranded in some of the worst situations across the planet. Born in 1930, George Soros was forced to hide his Jewish ancestry when Hungary was invaded by Nazi forces during World War II and around 500,000 members of the Jewish community were murdered. After living under the totalitarian rule of Soviet leaders following World War II, Soros would take a refugee journey to the U.K. where he studied at the London School of Economics. The result of his donations of $18 billion to the Open Society Foundations is a growing level of influence on the human rights community, and read full article.
